ITHE UNIVERSITY

About the university

A large campus in the west of Jurong. Its engineering foundation remains, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering is the line most often compared.

I

NTU's main campus is in the west of Jurong, on the site of Nanyang University, founded in 1955. Today it is Singapore's other large comprehensive research university, and engineering is still the easiest part to see. The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) is large, and business, communication and some humanities are here too. The campus is open, and the radius of daily life feels different from NUS at Kent Ridge.

II

The undergraduate degree in electrical and electronic engineering is four years, with circuits, analogue and digital electronics, semiconductors, signals and systems and electromagnetics at the core, followed by directions such as power and energy, integrated circuits, communications or intelligent systems, plus design projects and a final-year project. Other branches of engineering have different prerequisites. Business is a different school. Most mainland families put NUS and NTU on one table to compare subject structure, campus and teaching style.

III

It suits a child whose science and engineering route is already fairly clear and who accepts the daily life of a large campus. For those who care more about the subject range of a comprehensive university and a city radius, NUS is usually the first comparison. Do not ask only which ranks higher.

Who should go, and who should look elsewhere

Suits this university

I

A clear science and engineering route

Especially electronic, electrical and related engineering, where the timetable is very specific about mathematics, physics and prerequisites.
II

Willing to put it on one comparison table with NUS

Most families look at the two together. Accept the daily life of the large Jurong West campus; the differences are in timetable and location.

Look elsewhere

If you care more about the subject range of a comprehensive university and a city radius

NUS is usually the first comparison.

Common application directions

The departments and programmes that come up most often in consultations. Within one university, a different department is a different application. Course structure follows what the university's official website publishes for the year.

I

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

A four-year Bachelor of Engineering in the EEE school. The core includes circuit analysis, analogue and digital electronics, semiconductors, signals and systems and electromagnetics, plus a design and innovation project and a final-year project. From year three you can take directions such as electrical and systems, microelectronics and photonics, or information and communications. Mathematics and physics prerequisites must be checked, and it is not the same application as computing or business.
II

Engineering

Mechanical, civil, chemical, materials and others are other engineering programmes, with different prerequisites and accreditation routes. The engineering foundation remains: match the school and the timetable first, and only then talk about the business and communication options that came with its broadening.
III

Business

Nanyang Business School's undergraduate and master's programmes are often compared with NUS business. The differences are in timetable, campus location and the arrangement of quantitative courses, not in a line about ranking. Prerequisites for the one-year master's follow the postgraduate page.
